The King Of Soulful House
Louis the XIV otherwise known as Louis The Great, was the longest reigning monarch in all of Europe. During Louis’s illustrious reign, France was the leading European power, and fought in three major wars which aided in the expansion of France’s boundaries. Louis the XIV ruled for 72 years until his eventual death. It is through his great feats and many conquests that both stories & songs have come to be written and sung about him. Little did many know at the time that in centuries to come, another man with a similar name would rise to become king. However his rule would not be over the kingdom of France as was the case with his predecessor, instead, his reign would be over a much greater dominion, the kingdom of soulful house music.
If soulful house music was a kingdom, then Louie Vega would definitely be its reigning king. Often referred to as the Miles Davis of house music, this DJ, producer and songwriters influence on the world of house music is undeniable. In his two-decade long career, Louie Vega has DJ’d at some of the worlds most prestigious events, has worked with a number of highly acclaimed artists such as Mark Anthony, and is one half of the hit making duo “Masters At Work”, with the other half being Kenny “Dope” Gonzalez.
Having been responsible for some of the most memorable singles in house music history, Vega’s style reflects his eclectic perspective on music. With his productions & sets often times incorporating jazz, hip-hop, & Latin influences. In 2003 this Grammy Award winner launched his own label, Vega Records. A label which to this day continues to reflect his own unique music style.
