HRADIO EP 56 – Flame By DJ Ntirah
House Music South Africa · HRADIO EP 56 – Afro Tech Gold Vol 4 By DJ Ntirah HMSA Releases
If you think about it, hip hop’s popularity in part can be attributed to its ability to borrow from different genres, & assimilate them into the hip hop aesthetic in the most seamless of ways. Leveraging off the popularity of tried and trusted hits, to convert sceptics into die hard hip hop believers. Cause let’s be honest, the only reason we really love Ngud’ is because it samples Joakim’s remix of Antena’s “Camino Del Sol”. And yeah T.I’s a great rapper, but without the iconic melody of “Gypsy Woman” there’s no way his tune “Why You Wanna” would have even raised an eyebrow. Truth be told, there’s just no escaping house music’s clout in pop culture anymore, and its ability to be the magic behind a hit.
Look, sampling ain’t a new thing. It’s been around for a while. However sampling a house track, that isn’t really as common as one would like to think. It’s considered more the exception than the norm when compared to the more “mainstream” genres of the world. However as the tide continues to turn, we’d really love to see hip hop producers sample house jams more often. And if it’s a deep, well all the more better. P.S. Shout-out to Drake for sampling Black Coffee’s “Superman”. Love it!
We’ve put together a few of our favourite hip hop tunes that sample some of our favourite house jams. Press play & enjoy!
