They say simplicity is the ultimate form of sophistication. And to be honest with you, we couldn’t agree more. Unless you’re talking about the “levels” in Inception, then by all means complex is way better. However when it comes to music, there’s a common misconception that more is more. That more synths & louder kicks mean more impact. That more volume & more bass means more sensation.
Yeah sure we get it. Cause we like more too. However all too often – within the context of music that is, “more” means way more. More sounds to take in and more melodies to interpret. Look, we’re not the Dalai Lama purists of house music or anything, cause we’ve been all up in Ultra SA since day one. But sometimes, just sometimes…we like it when our favourite artists pull it back a little. When they keep things simple and let the lyrics tell the tale. When the beat takes a bit of a backseat and the vocals do all the driving.
Truth be told, it doesn’t happen that often. However when it does, it’s perfection personified. Take a listen to a few familiar and not so familiar tunes that stripped things down, and kept things simple in the most sophisticated manner possible. Enjoy!
