Disco’s Revenge

Disco’s Revenge

Disco is back! No wait, let’s rephrase that – Disco is back again! Actually, if we really come to think of it, disco didn’t go anywhere. We did!

In a world that’s notorious for pumping out fad after fad, it would appear as though many of us were too busy chasing the latest “sound of the moment” to actually take note of the one genre that has stood the test of time. Disco. We’ve been too caught up in big drops & devilishly deep house tunes to take notice of disco’s dance floor fillers & stereo destroyers. And to make matters worse, it’s not like the radio stations are playing disco jams on high rotation now are they? Nope, they most definitely ain’t. So why then does it feel like disco has reared its reflective ball shaped head again? And why does it sound oh so good?

We don’t know if it’s Louie Vega’s remix of “Bourgie, Bourgie” that got us feeling like disco evangelists of sorts, however if that’s the case, we ain’t complaining. Why you may ask? Well, because it’s reminded us of just how good it feels to get down to disco house – one of the only genres that makes you feel like a Pimp, walk like a Mac and glisten like a disco ball. However perhaps most importantly, Vega’s hot jam reminded us that disco ain’t dead. It brought back that very same feeling we got when we first listened to Masters At Work’s timeless remix of The Braxton’s hit tune “The Boss”. That feeling of being a Pimp & a Mac & a disco ball at the same damn time.

However before we get carried away romanticising things, we think it’s best to give a shout-out to the day one disco house heads like Joey Negro, Dimitri From Paris, Purple Disco Machine, Joey Chicago & Jay Vegas but to name a few. DJs, who’ve all in their own right been responsible for keeping the disco house genre sounding fresher than ever.

So, is disco back? Well, if you hadn’t noticed…it never left. You were just too busy to realise it. Take a listen to a few disco house jams that got us glowing like disco balls outchea in the world. Enjoy!
