Off The Record

Off The Record
Off the record, we don’t always get to listen to every single tune there is out there. Off the record, we don’t always agree on which tune to feature. And off the record, not all the tunes we actually listen to are house jams.

Yes we said it – we cheat on house music with other lesser genres. Well, sort of. Off the record, every so often, we feel the need to switch it up. To expose our ears to different auditory experiences. Just in exactly the same way some house producers feel the need to switch things up by experimenting with different genres of music.

Yeah you’ve heard it before, on your favorite producers SoundCloud page. A tune that they’ve undoubtedly produced. The artwork has their face on it. The title has their name on it. However the thing is, when you press play, it doesn’t quite sound like house music. And truth be told, it doesn’t quite sound like whatever genre it’s supposed to sound like.

You see, there’s a beautiful thing that happens when a house producer, or rather, a producer with house sensibilities producers another genre of music. You can’t really put your finger on it, but it’s there – A resonance of sorts that meanders through the track. As we said, you can’t really put your finger on it, so you’re just gonna have to settle with that explanation for now.

But seriously…off the record, we kinda like it when producers dabble in other genres. It allows us the opportunity to not only take in their interpretation of other musical styles, but it also broadens our own musical perspectives. And besides, it’s kinda cool getting to know the different facets of our favourite artists. Cause off the record, no producer is just one thing. And off the record…there’s more to music than just house music. And if you ever quote us on that, we’ll most definitely deny it “On The Record”.

We’ve put together a few of our favourite jams from a few of our favourite artists who have gone “off the record” to produce other styles of music. Take a listen, and enjoy!
