The Vinyl Revival
Just when you thought digital had won the battle, vinyl decided to make its comeback. In a world that’s dominated by streaming services and digital download portals, the familiar medium of vinyl has been slowly edging its way back into the limelight. But why is that? Surely digital downloads have made things easier for consumers, allowing them to purchase & play their favourite tunes instantaneously. And surely streaming services have alleviated the need to purchase tracks altogether, giving people the opportunity to sample a wide variety of music without ever having to download anything. However maybe, just maybe, in a world that’s ever changing, what people are actually looking for isn’t convenience, but rather…experience.
According to reports, 2015 experienced its highest LP sales since 1989, with those under the age of 25 being the driving force behind the vinyl revival. Could it be that the new generation of music consumers are looking for a more meaningful connection to the music they listen to? Could it be that they’re looking for that experience of going to a record store, & searching through a crate full of LPs in the hopes of finding that one rare musical gem? Our could it be that they’re looking for that experience of taking a LP home, pulling it out its sleeve, & savouring the smell of freshly pressed vinyl right before playing it on a vintage record player?
We don’t know what the vinyl revival can be attributed to, and more importantly, we don’t know if it’ll last. However, the one thing we’re definitely sure of, is that vinyl, if but only for the time being is definitely in vogue. We’ve put together a few house tunes that you most definitely need to get on vinyl. Enjoy the experience.
