That Classic S#!T

What is it about our fixation with the past? Our flirtation with its aesthetics, sounds and conventions. Is it a sense of nostalgia that moves us to recreate certain aspects of it? Or is it our fear of the future that leads us back down memory lane time and time again, to walk that familar path, and to once again partake in those familiar feelings? We don’t know what it is, and maybe, just maybe we’re overthinking things. But if we’re being honest with each other, completely honest…there are just some things in the past that are just not worth letting go of.

When it comes to house music, there’s no doubt that the late 80’s and early 90’s had that sound! The sound of piano chords reverberating while the kick echoed in your chest & the lead vocals soared high above the track. The sound of an unapologetic bassline meandering through a melody, while synth pads gently set the tone. Frankie Knuckles, Masters At Work, David Morales, Todd Terry, Tony Humphries…they’re that sound. The sound that became synonymous with a genre, and became the template that would be imitated, replicated, and imitated yet again.

With so much magic coming from an era, why would one not want to recreate it? Why would one not want to share it with the newly initiated house loves, to give them an alternative to the builds, drops & synth heavy sounds of the 2000s. Why would one not want to walk them down the well trodden cobblestone paved path down memory lane, back to a place where house music, was house music. We’ve put together a few of our favourite classic house jams that take us back, way back to the beginning. Back…to house music. Take a listen & enjoy!
