Louie Vega – The King Of Soulful House
Louis the XIV otherwise known as “Louis The Great”, was the longest reigning monarch in all of Europe. During Louis the XIV’s illustrious reign, France was the leading European power, fighting in three major wars which aided in the expansion of France’s boundaries. Louis the XIV ruled for 72 years until his eventual death. It’s only through his great feats and many conquests that both stories & songs have come to be written and sung about him. Little did many know at the time that in centuries to come, another man with a similar name would rise to become king. However his rule would not be over the kingdom of France as was the case with his predecessor, instead, his reign would be over a much greater dominion, the kingdom of soulful house music.
If soulful house music was a kingdom, Louie Vega would definitely be its reigning king. Often referred to as the Miles Davis of house music, Vega’s influence on the world of house music is undeniable. With unforgettable hits such as “Brand New Day”, “London Roots” & “Diamond Life”. And not to mention a string of riveting remixes such as “Nights Over Egypt” & “The Boss” with his Masters At Work counterpart Kenny “Dope” Gonzalez, Louie Vega’s discography reads like a house music wish list of sorts. In his over two-decade long career, Louie Vega has played at some of the worlds most prestigious events. Having played most recently in SA at the Corona Sunsets Festival alongside the equally legendary Kenny Dope, Vega’s infectious energy on the decks is a sight to behold, with vibrant sets that often incorporate jazz, hip-hop, & Latin influences.
