They are the innovators. The owners of the house music templates that every producer and DJ wish to replicate. Without knowing it, they’ve schooled us in the ways of house music, introducing us to its multiple facets. With nightclubs as their classrooms, & with decks as their teaching aids, many have flocked to hear their house messages preached through mix.
Their names? Kenny, Louie, Vinny, Christos, David, Oskido, DJ Fresh, & “The Godfather Of House Music” Frankie Knuckles are but a few of the house honchos we’ve come to know. Having contributed immensely to the art form, their names have become synonymous with house music.
Need we mention the string of hits Masters At Work have produced? Who remembers David Morales’s “Needin U”? Who can possibly deny the influence that DJ Fresh, Oskido & DJ Christos have had on the SA house scene, with their string of memorable compilations under mix master Vinny Da Vinci’s label House Afrika? And then there’s Frankie Knuckles. The original innovator & house music evangelist.
With a string of accolades behind them, it’s no wonder we refer to them as the head honchos of house music. So, in honour of all they’ve done for the house scene at large, we’ve decided to bring you some of our favorite mixes from these house honchos that we’ve stumbled upon over the years. Enjoy!
