Imagine for a second, that you’re one of the biggest DJs in the world. That every second night, you stand in front of a sea of people. People who all know your name. As a matter of fact, they’re all chanting it right now, at this very moment. The lights go dim. The crowd goes silent. They’re all quietly waiting for your opening track of the evening. Your heart skips a beat. You look out into the crowd. You realise that you’ve made it. You’re living your dreams. It’s time to start the show. You grab the mic. Let it all begin.
Not many of us know this feeling. The feeling of being adored by many, and envied by a select few for the music you make. It’s an experience that not many of us will have the pleasure of partaking in. And more importantly, a pain that very few of us will have the agony of succumbing to.
It ain’t easy operating at that level of superstardom. Traveling from country to country. Waking up in a different hotel room every second night. What day is it? What time is it? Oh snap, I missed little Jimmy’s birthday yesterday. But hey, can’t call now. Need to meet the promotors of tonight’s event before I hit the studio with “what’s his face”.
And so it goes. Or at least that’s how we think it goes. It truly does seem like a gratifying, yet taxing affair of sorts. We’ll never know about the pleasures and pitfalls of being at the top of the game. However, thank goodness these DJs have given us a peek into their lives with these hot documentaries.
