Dames On Decks

Dames On Decks
Sometimes, somethings just require a woman’s touch. A woman’s perspective so to speak. In a world saturated by mens views & opinions, it’s refreshing having a woman’s take on things. And that, couldn’t be any truer than in the world of house music.

Ok sure, we know the obvious. That house music is dominated by a whole lot of guys. It’s true. So instead, let’s rather talk about a few of our favourite female producer/ DJs.

Firstly, we gonna start off by saying that we’re fans. Huge fans of all the featured female DJs. So much so that whenever we can see them, we most definitely do. Like last year when we found out Maya Jane Coles was performing at Boiler Room Johannesburg, best believe that we hustled hard to catch her live. Not to mention a year or so back when Anané played at Black Motion’s 1st Sunday gig, a few of the fellas at the office who attended the event said they never knew she threw it down on the decks like that. And who can forget earlier this year, when we finally got to scratch Nora En Pure off our DJ hit list at Corona Sunsets SA.

So yes, we’re fans alright. And we’ve got the tags & pics to prove it. And even though we haven’t scratched all the featured DJs off our must see hit list, best believe that we scroll down their timelines & tune into their podcasts religiously – Shout-out to Lupe Fuentes & Sam Divine.

This women’s month, instead of getting caught up in all the gender based politics of the house music scene, let’s rather pause. Play a podcast. Change a misconception or two. And celebrate a few of the fiercest dames in the house game. Happy Women’s Month ladies!
