Music videos, our favourite guilty pleasure. Be honest, at some point in time you’ve either wanted to shoot one, star in one, or reenact a few scenes from one. Yes we’ll admit unashamedly that some of us here at HMSA know the dance moves to Michael Jackson’s “Thriller” off by heart. Hey don’t judge us! Like you haven’t done the Macarena at least once in your life.
But on the real, what is it about our fascination with music videos? What makes us lap them up like tequila on a Friday evening? Is it that reality is too real? That the ordinary is a bit too ordinary…an unfortunate consequence of living that makes us yearn for some sort of escapism. Is it that for 3 minutes 45 seconds we can immerse ourselves in the worlds of our favourite songs, losing ourselves as we watch the lyrics come to life? We don’t know what it is, we really don’t. The only thing we do know is that there’s no better form of visual crack than music videos.
Over the past few months, we’ve seen some truly amazing vids. From Black Motion’s “Fortune Teller” to Riton’s “Rinse & Repeat”, we’ve undoubtedly been treated to an array of visual delights that have fueled our imaginations, setting our retinas ablaze and reigniting our love for house music.
