Often heard but seldom seen. We refer to them as the first ladies of house. Now this isn’t a historical recollection of all the “first ladies” of the White House. Instead, it’s a musical recollection of all the female vocalists who’ve come into our lives through house music, leaving them that much more enriched than they were before. They’ve uttered the comforting words of a mother, the reassuring words of a friend, and the tender words of a lover. We’ve danced to their songs, we’ve cried to their songs, and we’ve recited poetry to our lovers while the melody of their voices reverberated in the background. To some, they’re just some random voice a producer decided to use on a track, however to us, they’re the Goddesses of house music. Goddesses, whose names will forever be ingrained in the hearts of house music lovers all across the world.
Who can still remember hearing the unwaveringly confident voice of Inaya Day in “Pushing On”? The inspirational voice of Julie Mcknight in “Home”? And how about the sultry, yet oh so mischievous voice of Monique Bingham in “We Had A Thing”? For us, their words have painted the pictures we only get to see in our dreams. Their voices, have sung the melodies that only our hearts understand. And their songs, have touched our lives in ways unimaginable. It’s for all these reasons and for so many more, that we’ve decided to pay tribute to these first ladies of house music. So, wherever you are, and whatever you’re doing, we ask that you take but only a few moments of your time to listen to the timeless voices, of some of the best female house music vocalist to ever grace a mic with their presence. Enjoy!
